The Colombian capital city has everything of a big city and more: an ever-growing cultural life, a well-preserved historical architecture memory, and magnificent landscapes surrounding it. That is why it's not easy to choose the main attractions in Bogotá. The ideas below would be a sort of recommendations if you decide to go and visit this beautiful South American country:

First of all, culture. The cultural trail can start anywhere. However, La Candelaria is a main artistic attraction; it has preserved a colonial architecture, and the entire neighborhood has become a cultural center in Bogotá’s downtown due to its colorful facades, walls, and several theaters that have welcomed the most creative collective of artists. It is a perfect site to take pictures and enjoy a typical food in a unique ambiance. All the main historical buildings and the museums are unavoidable attractions at Bogotá’s downtown: art lovers can visit the Gold Museum that exhibits the largest collections of gold work from the pre-colonial era; the Museum of Modern Art and the Fernando Botero Museum exhibit unique paintings, sculptures and engraved art pieces. Last but not least, the Cathedral and the various churches complete the frame of the main attractions at heart of Bogotá.

Modernity and excitement converge in Bogotá. Modern shopping centers and nightclubs in gorgeous neighborhoods constitute main attractions in Bogotá. They warmly welcome the visitors and create an enjoyable environment where live music and a variety of restaurants delight the most refine taste. The Zona T and Zona G are exemplary places of modern architecture and active nightlife. Walking around is not a problem, in fact it is recommended. The zone around Parque de la 93 combines music, food and entertainment beautifully decorated by a stunning park. Finally, Usaquén is well known by its restaurants; however, it is better if you walk around during the day because it is possible to appreciate the uniqueness of the place.

Colombian Andean landscapes are part of the captivating attractiveness of the city. Because Bogotá is located 2,640 meters above the sea level the view from Cerro de Monserrate, up to the hill, fascinates the visitors. Mountains surround the city; the savannah extends its colors beyond the view can reach; a blue sky and the whitest and thickest clouds you might never see in another spot on earth.

Heading north or south away from the city, it is possible to find several places: First, Zipaquirá is a charming town where the Salt Cathedral, a national monument, was built in a functional salt mine; it has become an international destination. It has delicate details craved out from the walls and a powerful religious meaning for locals and visitors. Guatavita and Villa de Leyva captivate everybody. Villa de Leyva with cobble stones streets, narrow stone sidewalks, fountains, churches preserve the colonial spirit, and it seems like time has frozen. Traditional snacks can be purchased along the way in a myriad of towns of the Andean Savannah.

One of the places one must visit is a coffee plantation. It is not only a touristic trip but also it is educative. While walking the plantation one learns the harvest process and the preparation of one of the best coffees in the world. Guided trip is recommended because sometimes is not possible to enter a plantation without previous notice. So you can save some time if you arrange that first. But the effort is worth paying: a delicious and aromatic cup of coffee waits for coffee lovers.
