The capital city of Colombia is located in the center of the country in a beautiful savannah 2,640 meters (8646 ft.) above the sea level. It is a city of contrast where the modern side harmoniously merges with colonial facades reflected in churches, streets, and buildings. An active student live style, and a vivid artistic life encompass the main attractions of Bogotá placed in different locations and containing diverse cultural background that thrives in the city. 

With an average temperature of 14°C (varying from 9 to 22ºC) walking the narrow streets is an enjoyable plan. The main attraction in Bogota’s downtown is the architectural uniqueness of the buildings, a wide range of museums exhibiting colonial to contemporary art. The most representative is the Museo del Oro (Gold Museum); its main attraction is a collection that displays an extraordinary selection of pre-Hispanic gold work. The exhibition occupies three floors; it is the biggest in the world. The Museum of Modern Art of Bogotá shelters a collection of national an international artists such as Fernando Botero, Miró, Dalí or Picasso. Still in downtown the picturesque neighborhood La Candelaria puts on view a fairly well preserved colonial features on the facades. It is considered the one of the cultural sites in the city. 

Another main attraction is the view from the top of Cerro de Monserrate; it captivates visitors with the immense savannah on which Bogotá is settled. Getting there is a main attraction by itself. The cable car and the funicular railway are two of the three ways of reaching the peak. The other one is walking; it is a great deal of exercise, but the effort rewards because of the panoramic view of Bogotá. It is a perfect place to take pictures, get handicrafts or just relax. It is also possible to go to the hill at night and be delighted by the lights of the city. An unavoidable sightseeing is the village of Zipaquirá, approximately one hour from the capital. The town is beautiful with cobble stone streets, wooden balconies and a colonial ambiance all around. However, the Salt Cathedral is the reason why people from all over the world go there. The cathedral carved out of salt walls of a functional mine salt 200 feet bellow the surface¡ Inside a cold, humid sensation permeates the dim tunnel toward the heart of the earth. It is a worth see site, the architectural structure let you worthless. Besides, the handicrafts are amazing (emeralds including¡).

Traveling to Guatavita and Villa the Leyva allows admiring the Andean landscapes. Both are beautiful small towns with a unique architecture. Villa de Leyva an Architectural National Monument for its cobblestone streets and colonial houses and churches. On the road, to stop by a coffee plantation could be a perfect choice to enjoy an aromatic cup of coffee like no other in the world.  

At night Bogotá shows the other side. Theaters, live music, bars, cinemas may be the first step into the striking nightlife of the Colombian capital. There are a variety of places where to go and find music, great food and dance. Zona T and Parque de la 93 are well known for their vivid activity; if you like crowded places you will be at the core. On the other hand, Usaquén and Zona G are better to enjoy international and typical food and a quieter place.
