And nothing better to enjoy this trip  at Zuetana Hotel, our home feel that has for so many years made us famous has now been expanded to our four locations, all in great areas of our town.

This week long trip to Bogota, will help you get a feeling again of this fantastic city, which has developed incredibly in the last few years becoming on the most dynamic metropolis in Latin America, as well as one of the fastest growing economies in the region.

Some suggestions to Visit Bogota are...

Visit in the morning the historic Candelaria district in downtown Bogota where the centuries’ old houses will remind you of the contrasts of this fast growing city, which just 200 years ago barely reached 20,000 inhabitants in this small area of town, to over 8 million people that now live here. The first visit will be to the famous Gold Museum, that has gone a complete renovation* and has now become one of the best museums in the world with its fantastic collection of thousands of precolumbian gold pieces from the many different cultures that lived in Colombia’s territory prior and during the colonial years. After this visit and crossing the Santader Park, once the city’s spice market, the trip will continue to the historical churches of San Francisco, Veracruz and La Tercera where the Gold, Silver and Mahogany carved altars will give you a sense of the incredible attention to detail that craftsmen in old days were able to deliver.

In the afternoon the visit to Bogota will continue on to Bolivar Square, center of Colombia’s democracy. This plaza is flanked by the Justice Palace, home to the highest courts in the country, the Lievano Palace which houses City Hall, the Capitolio Nacional our Congress Building and the National Cathedral. Also in the area the walk will continue to Nariño Palace, home to Colombia’s President, several other historical churches such as San Agustin, Candelaria and the Santa Clara which is now a beautifully restored museum. Another museum that will be visited is the Casa de la Moneda which houses part of Fernando Botero’s private collection. This Colombian painter and sculptor whose work in among to most valued for a live artist in the world today, has left Bogota, besides his own work, a great collection of world famous artists such as Picasso, Miro, Calder, Renoir and Monet among many others. This day will end by riding the cable car just at sunset to enjoy a breathtaking view of the city as the limitless spread of lights unfolds to your feet.

This day will take out to the green and lush savannah that surrounds the city of Bogota. The trip will begin with a visit to the town of Zipaquirá home to the famous Salt Cathedral. This underground church located half a mile into the mountain and over 500 feet underneath the surface, is one of those great wonders that must be seen. With a capacity of over 3,000 people this underground church is a magical and totally unexpected surprise.

In the afternoon the visit will continue to the mythical Guatavita Lagoon where the famous El Dorado Legend was brought to life by ancestral Colombian tribes that held rituals to their gods by offering gold and jewels, ritual that caught the attention of many of the conquistadors that came from Spain looking for wealth in this land centuries ago.

As part of the plan is to enjoy Bogota at its fullest, leisure days are included in this trip, beginning today with a morning of golf at one of highest courts in the world at top of the mountains surrounding Bogota.

In the afternoon a shopping spree in some of the many great malls in Bogota, so you can enjoy the many buying options that Colombia has now to offer for our visitors. The day will end by going to one the many areas where street side café’s are lined up as gathering points for Bogotanos of all ages who enjoy our famous socializing afternoons.

This day will take out to see one of the most traditional and best kept villages in Colombia. Wondering out through the highlands in the Colombian Andes, the road will suddenly drive you into the Desert of La Candelaria, where time seems to not passed for the last 200 years. This cobbled street town of Villa de Leyva is standing in time, waiting to be discovered. With its many artisans and artists that fill up the stores around the many side streets of the largest square in Colombia, this town is a large contrast to the big and bustling metropolis of the previous days.

After a previous day full of activities, a day of slow immersion into the daily life of the city can be done. A late start out to the traditional food and flower markets will show you how the country side seen in the previous days fits into the large city.

In the afternoon a whole array of activities that may be of interest to your children can be planned. Paint ball, laser shoots, bowling, horse back riding, karts are some of the activities that can be planned depending on age and interests. Or maybe going out to parks, café’s and even bars if they are more grown up. The idea just to make sure Bogota will stay in the memory of your family for year to come.

This last day is reserved to show you the many geographical contrasts that we are so proud to enjoy in our country. A short trip into the tropical areas that surround the high pleateau will give you the opportunity to see some of the most stunning sceneries any where in the world, with fantastic views of mountains and valleys and the best of all to see how the most pleasant spring-fall weather in Bogota suddenly becomes the humid summer weather in a matter of an hour or two. This trip will also give you the opportunity to visit a traditional Coffee Plantation, and see how the best coffee in the world is hand picked in the mountains of Colombia. Also in this trip, a visit to beautiful orchid farm will give you the opportunity to see many of the different species of Colombia’s national flower.

On this day you will return to your country, with some fantastic memories of our beautiful country, with our wish to hopefully see you back soon.
