SOME ASPECTS OF AGING AND REJUVENATION

Through all times, human beings have sought youth, confusing also youth with beauty. At the same time,  the interest in beauty has been assimilated to vanity, which sometimes is considered wrong and superfluous. However, a right approach to vanity can consider it as each personís need to feel right about his aspect, and about himself in general.

This permanent human wish continues existing in our times. Men sought youth, in ancient times, by magic beverages, potions,  or formulas of any kind. Today, science conducts a real, serious search, studying genes, in first place. Research has rendered some results:  By modifying genes at laboratories, insects like caterpillars have duplicated their life times and vitality; some rats and fruit wasps have increased their life times in 35%.  All this research could lead in the future to a longer, healthier youth,  and of course, to longer, healthier lives. By modifying genes, cell damage, which causes the aging process, could be retarded.

The intake of many substances like vitamins, anti-oxidants, a much better knowledge about the mechanisms that cause the aging process and a better nutritional balance have been factors that lead to a longer, better life expectancy.

While really big changes become available to us, the most successful options are surgical procedures that eliminate or reduce clear signals of aging, like skin volume and width loss,  reduced subcutaneous tissue, reduced muscular tone and fat, which cause wrinkles, specially at the forehead, and the space between eyebrows or at the nasal-labial furrow and the periorbicular zone (crowís feet), among other places. Bags in eyelids are also a common sign of aging.

Current trend consists on performing less evident surgeries, with less visible scars. A common practice consists on refilling lost fat volume in face and performing surgeries through much smaller incisions like those got by Endoscopic Surgery. The main purpose is to re-create the tissue volumes, obtaining a result that resembles the quality of those tissues 10 or 15 years before, and without big scars.  It is becoming a usual practice, the tendency to re-build former features, restoring lost fat volumes, by injecting fat from the patient himself,  trying to restore Patientís juvenile features that were lost through the aging process.

To get a better facial look, Plastic Surgeons carry out several surgical procedures,  like correction of eyelid bags, which make face look older and tired, or improvement of aesthetic features of nose and chin and reduction of face wrinkles.

All of this, in conclusion,  is aimed to create beauty, which means also youth.
