Bogota D. C. is the capital of the Republic of Colombia. Colombia is located in the northern part of South America between Panama and Venezuela to the North and to the South it shares borders with Peru, Ecuador, and Brazil. The Colombian territory covers an area of 1,300,000 square kilometers. |

The city of Bogota boasts seven million inhabitants and an average year-round temperature of 14 degrees centigrade. It is said to be as dangerous as New York City, but we who live here really do not see it any different security-wise from other large cities around the world, except maybe Geneva and Oslo that are cities known to be much safer than Bogota, New York, Madrid, and many others. As to security, it is true that we have had some terrorist attacks, but never any where as many persons died as in New York or, more recently, Madrid. In general terms, Colombia is a country that has suffered a lot due to two problems that hinder the country’s development. They are well known: drug trafficking and the guerrilla movement. What is not so well known is that no less than 81.4% of the total Colombian population repudiates and abhors these two blights and that everyone of us in that group is doing everything we can to put an end to them. |
